Veneno is a Spanish biographical TV series that tells us the story of “La Veneno.” La Veneno or Cristina Ortiz Rodríguez was a sex worker, singer, and TV personality. She was one of the first transgender women to become widely known in Spain.

Cristina’s story is life in its true form. It is brutal, and it is hard, and at the same time it is so beautiful. Her story evokes wide variety of emotions. While I was watching the series, I felt happiness, anger, or was completely devastated — I cried so much, that I had to pause. Showing raw emotions of real people, of their struggles and successes. This series resonates with every fiber of human soul. It shows how strong, but at the same time how fragile and vulnerable people can be. Because we are all just people with our weaknesses and desires, our dreams and our hopes, and we all just want to be ourselves.

Cristina La Veneno had never apologized for who she was, and by being true to herself she became an inspiration and an icon for transgender people and LGBTQIA+ community in general. It is impossible to overstate her impact on the community. She was and always will be loved, admired, and cherished.
